Pouch slings are a wonderful way to carry your precious
baby. A pouch sling will distribute the weight of your baby across
your shoulder blades and back without causing neck strain. Your pouch
sling can be worn in a number of positions. The cradle position for
nursing and sleeping, carry an older baby tummy to tummy, face out
in a "kangaroo position", or on your hip...this being especially helpful for
carrying your toddler. Close To Heart pouch slings are so easy to use
with no rings, buckles, or zippers in a convenient secure design. Simply place the sling over the
head, seat baby in desired position, and you are ready to go. Close
To Heart pouch slings are great for "on the go" mothers and a personal favorite
here at New Little Blessing. The Close To Heart pouch sling can be
folded up to quickly fit into your purse or diaper bag. It is great
for newborns to toddlers up to 35 lbs.
How To Use Your Close To Heart Pouch Sling
~As in all things practice makes perfect. You can
practice with a stuffed animal or doll before using your pouch sling with
your baby.
~Don't use your sling for the first time when your newborn is hungry or
fussy. Happy babies will enjoy their first sling experience!
Walking around with your baby in a sling may bring a quiet break while baby
falls asleep.
~When your sling is adjusted on your shoulder properly there will not be a
need to use your arms to support your baby while standing or walking around.
Your sling should be doing this work for you.
~When bending down, please bend at the knees and hold one
hand on your baby in sling to support it.
~For a newborn, you may place a cloth diaper or blanket under
the head for extra support and to help during nursing.
Putting on your Close To Heart Pouch Sling

1. The tack (this is the sewing at the shoulder that
folds the top of the pouch in half) should be held in your arm and the pouch
seam will hang at the bottom of the sling.*
2. Place sling over desired shoulder with seam on top to
form pouch.
3.
With pouch in place, open outer side of sling to place baby in position
desired.
4. Hold
your baby in your left arm as you open the sling with your right hand.
5. Place baby in pouch so your baby's bottom rests on the
bottom seam, and baby's head is resting on the left side of your body.
6. Once your baby is placed in the Close To Heart pouch
sling, reach behind you to stretch the fabric across your back to broaden
the pouch and provide more support.
7. As you baby is adjusting to the pouch sling the first time
begin walking so the familiar swaying motion will soothe your baby.
8. As you become familiar with using your pouch sling other
positions can be tried.
*If desired, reverse instructions to wear sling on right shoulder.
Is My Sling Fitting Correctly?
Most parents can wear 2 sizes in the pouch sling. If
you hare having trouble getting your baby in and out of the sling, it is too
small. If your legs are hitting the baby when you walk, the sling is
too big.
For Smaller Babies...Positions to try so baby can see its surroundings
1. If your sling is hanging low (too big), a sharp V is
formed, and this could roll your baby up in a ball. If the pouch is
hanging towards the waist, a gentle angle will be formed to support your
baby in the cradle position.
2. You can place your baby with the feet near the
bottom pouch seam instead of the baby's bottom and this will place baby high
up in the sling. (see Infant Cradle Position, for example).
3. Turn your baby so the head is facing opposite of the
fabric slung over your shoulder and place a towel or baby blanket under
baby' s head, if desired.
Infant Cradle

Put on your Close To Heart pouch sling.
Hold baby in your left arm as you open the pouch sling with your hand.
Place baby in sling so baby's bottom rests on the bottom seam. With a
small baby or newborn, you can place baby's bottom up higher from the bottom
seam as shown here.
Hip Carry

This photo shows a toddler in his sling for the hip carry.
To hip carry with an infant - Support baby with one arm and
slip sling over baby's head and arms. Lift baby to your shoulder and
pull sling down to fit pouch over baby's bottom. Your baby's weight
will create a seat in the pouch of the sling and deep it securely in place.
To hip carry a toddler- Put on your Close To Heart
sling.
Lift and lower your toddler into the sling, with both legs over the top.
Place one leg on each side of your hip the same as to carrying your toddler
yourself. The sling fabric should be under your toddler's bottom with the
remaining pulled under the toddler's armpit. This position will
cause the least amount of strain if your sling length keeps your toddler at
your waist.
Some people like to use their pouch sling to carry their
toddler on their back. This is not recommended. If you use this position please be aware that
your toddler could try to climb out, or move quickly, and should be brought
to a hip or front position immediately.
Kangaroo Carry
Put on your Close To Heart pouch sling. Hold baby
against chest and shoulder lifting baby with legs folded. Widely open
the outer side of pouch sling. Lower baby into pouch so baby is seated
in between inner and outer sling rails. Attention: This is a position
to use only after your baby can hold up its own head.

Belly to Belly Carry
Put on your Close To Heart pouch sling with the pouch being
in front of your stomach. Lower baby into pouch and pull sling
material under baby's bottom and secure legs hanging below pouch.
Upper fabric can be pulled up your baby's back as high as possible.

How Do I
Determine What Size To Buy?
To decide what size you need take a tape measure and measure
from the top of your shoulder to your opposite hip, like a banner as shown
in the photo on left.
The model in this photo is 5' 6". Ordering a size
Medium
at 22 inches is the correct size for her.
If you are a half size such as 23 1/2 you would order the
next size up, a Medium 24". It is better to have a sling slightly
larger than too small.

How To Measure
for a Pouch Sling if you are pregnant:
Measure loosely from
the outside of your shoulder to the top of your opposite hip bone on
your back! You will need someone else to do this for you. Be sure to
make allowance for your bust area when measuring.
If you need a size not listed, please contact us with your
measurement at
jennifer@newlittleblessing.com
and we will work with you
to provide that special fit at no extra charge.
If after ordering, you find your sling is not the correct size
due to various preferences, simply exchange your pouch sling for the desired
size. If you are not completely satisfied with your Close To Heart
Baby Pouch you may receive a full refund, within 30 days of purchase if it
was one of our 7 standard sizes.
